April 9, 2025 – In response to the House Energy & Commerce Committee’s Privacy Working Group Request for Information, the American Vehicle Owners Alliance (AVOA) submitted comments emphasizing the need to address vehicle data privacy and access in any potential legislation or privacy framework.
AVOA believes vehicle owners’ access to and control of their vehicle data is fundamental to privacy, putting control back in the hands of the owners rather than manufacturers. Empowering vehicle owners with full control over their data offers broad benefits across privacy, cybersecurity, competition, consumer protection, economic growth, mobility, property rights, and safety.
To responsibly and successfully advance data access—and, by extension, the automotive industry—AVOA urges the Working Group to include vehicle data access and control provisions in the development of a comprehensive federal privacy framework. By working together, automakers, regulators, and fleet owners can create simpler, more consistent, and safer consumer experiences.
