The House Energy & Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade held a hearing entitled, Examining Legislative Options to Strengthen Motor Vehicle Safety, Ensure Consumer Choice and Affordability, and Cement U.S. Automotive Leadership.
The American Vehicle Owners Alliance (AVOA) submitted a statement for the record in support of H.R. 6687, the Data Rights to Information and Vehicle Electronic Records (DRIVER) Act, which was among the bills discussed at the hearing. The DRIVER Act establishes clear, technology neutral federal protections ensuring that vehicle owners, not manufacturers, control access to the data generated by their own vehicles.
